590 Local Notes   $a Local Notes  REVIEW: This book is about three children who lost their parents in a house fire accident. Their bank manager tells them that their family died, and they will be living with there guardian, Lemony Snicket. When they go, they don't like him very much, but next door they meet a lovely young lady named Justice Strauss who invited them in to help her. She told them they can read her books if they liked, and they loved that very much. When they returned to their guardian, he told the three children to go get roast beef for him and his cast from a play; but they don't get roast beef, they make pasta with puttanesca sauce. To find out more about the book, just read it to find OUT.What I liked about the book was that it had three children, a revolting guardian that they did not like, and a lovely young woman who adored the children. I also like how the beginning was sad, how their family died from a house fire, their bank manager came to take them to their guardian, and the middle was a little dumb at first. Matthew R. March 2007
590 Local Notes   $a Local Notes  Review: If you're interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. This book has no happy beginning or ending. As depressing as it may sound, A Series of Unfortunate Events, is a book worth reading. Klaus, Sunny, and Violet Baudelaire, start off as a happy, average family with a mother and a father. Then, a fire starts in the Baudelaire's home, leading to their parents' death. They are then sent to live with their evil uncle, Count Olaft. Olaft knows that the children have lots of money from their parents death, so he forces Violet to marry him. If Violet chooses not to marry him, he will drop Sunny into the cage she is hanging from. The Baudelaire children put together some clues and evidence of the murder of their Uncle Monty, their Aunt Josephine, and their parents' all in Olaft's house. Find out more in Lemony Snicket's, Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning. I liked this book because it had a lot of adventure and connectable characters. I also liked it because it was mysterious yet sad at the same time. Series of Unfortunate Events is a book worth reading. So anyone who loves adventure and lots of action, should be interested in this series. And if you don't like this book read the rest of the series or even watch the movie! Miranda W. June 2007
